We’re thrilled to share that Hands In has been named Best Innovation in Retail & Merchant Payments at the PAY360 Awards 2026, one of the most respected events in the UK payments calendar.
Held on the 7th of October at the Grosvenor House London, the Pay360 Awards nominated us for two awards: Best Innovation in Retail & Merchant Payments, and Best Experience in Customer Payments.
We won Best Innovation in Retail & Merchant Payments and our CEO, Samuel Flynn was present at the event to receive the accolade.
The Pay360 team said we delivered a standout submission, addressing a clearly evidenced problem for both merchants and customers and providing a genuine upgrade to the customer payment experience.
In travel and high-value retail environments, approximately 5% of card transactions fail due to insufficient funds and credit limits. Mastercard data shows that 42% of travel declines are linked to insufficient funds.
These are not fraud cases. These are genuine customers who want to complete their purchase.
In high-value sectors such as airlines, OTAs, ticketing platforms, and premium retail, basket sizes frequently exceed individual card limits. Customers often have funds distributed across multiple cards or across multiple people, and existing checkout flows do not accommodate that reality.
The result is structural revenue leakage at checkout.
At the same time, research from Edgar, Dunn & Company shows that 75–80% of travellers want split payment options, yet only 22–27% of airline and OTA websites support them.
Hands In solves this without disrupting existing infrastructure.
Our solution is PSP-, gateway-, acquirer-, and orchestration-agnostic, requiring no routing changes or infrastructure replacement, which means that existing compliance, reconciliation, and reporting processes remain intact.
Through a single API/SDK integration, merchants unlock four capabilities:
If a payment fails due to insufficient funds, Hands In immediately gives the customer the option to retry their payment by splitting it in a way that works for them.
A) Card-Focused Option: In markets where cards remain dominant (70%+ penetration), customers can split the payment across multiple credit or debit cards to use available balances and complete the booking.
B) Multi-Payment Method Option (New): In markets with higher BNPL usage or lower card penetration, customers can split payments across a wider mix of payment methods, giving maximum flexibility and improving completion rates.
Hands In’s objective is to close this gap by enabling split payments and decline recovery at checkout, without requiring merchants to change their existing payment infrastructure, as our solution is PSP, gateway, and orchestrator agnostic.
This award, presented in association with Mastercard and sponsored by the Retail Technology Show, belongs to everyone who helped get us here: our customers and partners, including Air Europa, Webjet.com.au, Outpayce from Amadeus and UATP, and our best-in-class team.
Every year, merchants, gateways, acquirers and orchestration platforms lose sales to insufficient-funds declines, and most treat it as a cost of doing business, but we don’t. That’s revenue customers wanted to spend, lost at the very last step.
Getting here has taken collaboration, experimentation, and plenty of getting back up after things didn’t work. That’s what building something new looks like when you spot a real problem and refuse to accept it.
We’re looking forward to the rest of the awards season!
